Incorporating GridCoin Non-Profit Foundation

After a split opinions in regards to official GridCoin steemit account, and the problem of GRC Wallet growing out of scope where it's smart to be controlled by a single person as discussed here, This post aims to collect interested parities in forming a fully legally incorporated, non-for-profit GridCoin Foundation.

To address the issue of centralization, it is very important to understand that this organization is not going to represent the whole community nor be the "Official Gridcoin" represent. It will represent those who decide to be represented, as well as projects of owners who decide so.

Therefore, this is NOT the official GridCoin Community Foundation Initiative, rather the foundation of these who chose to be part of it.

Starting goals of the foundation is to:

  • Protect the interest of GridCoin related projects of Developers who decide to join and delegate such powers to a foundation.
  • Provide policies and regulations of joined projects with the best interest of GRC.
  • Support and regulate marketing Initiatives.
  • Make sure that any revenue generated through joined projects is distributed to support the infrastructural needs.

Further tasks are to be discussed once enough people shows interest so the decision making board could be formed.

If you are willing to take part into what we are about to establish, please fill up the form here.

If you are against this initiative, you don't need to do anything. Just like you don't need to support 'Open Source foundation' in order to release 'open source' software, 'GridCoin Foundation' is not going to officially represent GridCoin, except for these projects whose developers decide to be represented. The decision board is only going to make decisions about these projects and it's not going to act as official representative for anything else.

Q/A

  • What is the motivation for this?
  • You can read here but in short, the amount of users is growing, as well as their funds, so it requires policies in place as well as more then single person to operate such projects.

Ready to be part of it? Sign here.
(Information is not going to be used for any other purpose then incorporating a non-profit).

Thanks,

S.

You have e-mail twice in the form = )

I think this proposal needs to be developed to be taken seriously. Am happy to help, but details are incredibly lacking.

I have experience in creating what I think you're seeking to create.

@jringo first thanks for your comments. I am more then happy that someone more knowledgable then me (And I am not in this field) do things better. If you would like me to change / modify anything I am happy to do it, or if you would like to create it from scratch, I'll replace everything with content you supply. I'll change the multiple email, but if you want to create better one and take care of collecting potential members let's change this one with your link.

Personally, I don't think we're ready for large scale non-profits -- lots still to do. But something like this would need a lot of proposals around it. Financial, operational, procedural, mission. Lots of work.

I like and support the idea, though, so keep it up.

I'd suggest that you keep thinking about and working out the details. How exactly do you see this thing raising money and operating? That sort of stuff.

I do agree. What i wanted to do here, is to collect persons who are supporting this initiative on single place. So far, the big issues are the endless debates for and against. If we manage to form a group, all the things you are referring to should be the next step. That way, we are not going to argue should we, or not. We are going to argue about policies.

As for the money, if this trend continues (of doubling number of users every 2 weeks), I think even charging a transaction fee is going to get us started.

But let's see once we have some significant number of persons who are ready to stand by this idea in real life. I do relay on people with more experience and knowledge in this area among them.

If I understood correctly, the point is not to start a non-profit that now represents everyone or even attempts to become that. The point is to found a non-profit for all the creators around gridcoin to represent their interests and to organise things around gridcoin in the interest of the people in the foundation, not for everyone (of course, it would probably benefit everyone if some people do some marketing for example).

Exactly. To better describe, I have a project that performs much better then I was expecting, and I look forward to move that project from me, to a non-profit organization, that will take care of it in every aspect.

This will help me concentrate on other things to build, but I will also be sure that the project is in good hands.

But yes, not represent or try to represent anyone, just those who want's to be part of it.

Something like working group.

If it shows up well, a lot of people will join and it could become something "official" one day.

As for the benefit of everyone, yes it should be one of the core ideal to support GRC. In practice, everyone should benefit from it, but no-one should be bound or represented unless he want's to be.

Forming a "core values" should be among first thing to do once we have a group of people that shows interest to form it.

which is an awesome idea, but if you want to 503c you're going to be taking in money and it'll be important to very clearly state what you're going to do with that money and who is in charge and how they got to be in charge and all that fun stuff.

making a group or organization would be a good way to start, which after @crt's more recent explanation is what it looks like he's doing.

I find this very interesting, and a what I see as a strong step towards getting adoption from businesses and enterprise to start contributing to boinc and earning GRC. A step that hopefully helps to kickoff a Science Backed Economy
