Community Hangouts #047: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AWqqJVEeedY

Consider joining the Gridcoin Classroom #06 on January 13, Saturday, 6PM UTC.

We return for another new year.

Special thanks to @Peppernrino for editing the Gridcoin Community Hangouts. Thanks to the BeyondBitcoin community for providing the Gridcoin community a room in their Mumble server. :)

Hangout thread: https://steemit.com/gridcoin/@peppernrino/gridcoin-community-hangout-047

What is Gridcoin?

Gridcoin is a cryptocurrency which securely rewards BOINC computation (Such as attempting to solve cancer/AIDS/Ebola/Malaria, mapping the Milky Way, searching for extraterrestrial life, protein folding, etc) on top of Proof of Stake.

Sort:

To be frank, I am utterly sickened by the behaviour, accusations and misinformation in this recording.

It is clear several of the speakers are entirely misinformed on many of the topics discussed, and they justify this with potshots against members of both the Gridcoin and Graphene communities.

This should not be on our Twitter.

FYI: All the advertising spending that you guys are going nuts over is 100% transparent to anyone that wants to see it. Access has been offered repeatedly.

Yeah, I just listened into half of the hangout - it went way off topic, became vulgar and accused people of conspiracies/circle-jerking - not the spirit of the GRC hangouts I've come to remember. I've removed Steemit auto voting rules from the parties involved temporarily.

Just because someone's got a large steemit account doesn't mean they shouldn't be reimbursed for their Gridcoin work/expendatures, that's simply not how expenses/IRL work. I found the scrolling through vortacs wallet page to be in poor taste.

Hangouts should really be kept short, on-topic & neutral/non-biased.

Shouldn't the recording have ended at 2hrs 47mins? Seems the rest is post-hangout & should be off-the-record, no?

I love that I'm getting punished for this. Guilty by association.... ><

What? I was there listening and only thing with her was a mention of that political videos of sorts.

i think a lot of things are being misunderstood/conflated. i don't consider the upvoting to be a circle jerk... it's about how seriously certain groups of people take each other over the next. i don't see anybody posting a bunch of topics to the hangout like before. mind you, cm did most of the posting before... lol. members like brod have to hunt them down and link to them. we used to propose things and talk about them in the hangouts. that doesn't happen anymore. i'm showing up every time, where are the people with the proposals?

it has been decided that i will "professional up" the hangouts, and maybe pursue a different podcast for more controversial/opinion-based subject matter. i hope in return i can see a little more contribution and attendance from members, instead of complaining after the fact.

also, i do hope you mean "temporarily", as Pepper had nothing to do with this. she is making great content lately, and i can't help but feel that is an overstep.

let's promise to remove that part from the edited hangout, obviously. fkinglag has already agreed to cut the official recording before the "afterparty" -which was a good point- and i have no problem being more impartial while still getting my point across. although, i'm sure there is an audience that appreciates my ability to say the hard things.

onward and upward. :D

I would rather see you do something about helping like you have done before because your criticism isn't exactly the most valid right now. I don't think you should be making positions on what we should be doing. I have been trying to reform lots of the gridcoin hangouts and I get little to no support from most people. Including you, especially. Which, I have found disappointing and really sad.

Please clarify what you mean because these are hosted every week for public environment with public information being used to show others. Being dismissive upon everybody is pretty alarming because you aren't a representation of what everyone thinks.

The people represent themselves here and your virtue signalling only shows here whereas you have been absent from the hangouts for a very long time. You can very well use the platform we have here for addressing any of the issues you have with members in the Gridcoin community. I was wondering why the tweet was removed.

too bad twitter isn't on the blockchain. :(

people make mistakes. i don't think anything i said was appalling or anything either. that said, i'm not keen on the idea of censorship, or corporate fascism. where you build a world where the only people allowed to do business are the sociopaths that are able to constantly maintain a public face.

catering to haters and SJWs, and trying to market to children is how you end up there. you know, Disney.

is everybody here savvy that you have to be 18+ to crunch World Community Grid? so, are we technically an 18+ coin by transitive property? i think it's worth a thought at least.

For everyone's information, I am too busy to be so tied up in steemit like you all seem to depend on. I would like to still continue to work for myself and the Gridcoin community in whatever means I can. Meanwhile, I listened to the latest hangout and found most of whatever I said to be really weakly offensive because I have said much worse in the past.

I am active at trying to start a trade environment that can provide people with an over-the-counter way of buying or selling Gridcoin directly between a party of two or three. There is more information to come as I gather more people to help moderate and design continues.

I am going to see to that I can run local meetups and get those going regularly to run without me, eventually. I didn't get to talk about my recent and impromptu meetup this week with just a few people. I will be presenting, lecturing if not teaching, too. I don't really look for endorsement but you guys are really cramping my style trying to make statements about things that have been avoided up until now.
