How do you mean insured?
Some exchanges if they are hacked or you get hacked and it can be proven then they have insurance that will reimburse your funds. Not many exchanges but a few of the big ones do.
Someone also said it's safer to keep funds in exchanges since no one can access it unless the giver sends the code to them.
It's really a pity this happened.
