I've only returned to steemit in the last few days, and while I was away, it seems this chap called @Haejin has caused a bit (lot) of a stir. Like Marmite, steemians seem to either love him or hate him. People are probably gonna be pissed that I'm giving him even more publicity, but I honestly couldn't care less. I know one thing for sure, I'm certainly going to follow him. I was looking for someone like him 6 months ago. It seems I have quite a few of his posts to catch up on.
My opinion of a lot of the hate is quite simply, jealousy! he's come in with all the knowledge, and the skills to deliver that knowledge in a relatable way, and sky rocketed up the ranks. Everyone else has been struggling for however long, with very little success.
I say good for you @haejin you've done exactly what everyone who joins steemit, dreams of doing. I for one had plenty of 'daydreams' when I first started. It soon fizzled out when I realised how hard it is to stand out in the steemit crowd.
He has a ridiculous amount of followers so I'm not expecting him to reply, I often feel invisible on here anyway, (.) (Thats the smallest violin in the world btw) not that I'm moaning because my goal when joining was to learn about trading, and not be a blog master, which it seems you have to be in order to make some 'decent' steem. That or very lucky, which I've never been. No-one seems to be interested in what I enjoy writing; mainly fictional stories. Check this one out if u like:
I was also thinking of doing some First Aid Training blogs, but again I don't think people will bother, as it doesn't make them money, even though it could save someone they love's life.
So, I do want to write more regularly and try to succeed, but I'm not sure what to write about. I'm involved in the film industry, so maybe I could do something relating to that. What about film reviews, do they generally do well? I would love some advice, if anyone's willing to give me some.

I think you may need to re-evaluate what you want steemit to be for you. In the 5 months that I have been here, I have seen many faces of steemit. Do you want to use it to make money only. Do you want to use it as an alternative to normal Social Media? Do you have something you want to share with people? Is there something you are looking for from people?
You mentioned writing. What kind of writing do you want to do? Why do you want to write? Is it to only make money? Is it to entertain, or to inform people. Do you do technical writing, is it scientific writing? There are a lot of medias when it comes to writing, but all of them need to come from the heart to be successful.
My wife is the one who brought me into steemit. I hated google, FB, and Youtube, and twitter. She tried to get me to join lots of different social sites. So far this one works for me. I am enjoying it very much.
I like to read, and have found many, many authors to read. I even ran a small steemmag for awhile, may start it up again, but I have gotten so busy on here I honestly do not have time for it right now.
I guess the best advice I could give at this point is to engage in the comments of the post you like and enjoy. Something else that may help you decide about steemit, find a new person, I mean really new less than 30 days on steemit, try to introduce them to steemit, by doing so you introduce them to yourself, and you have someone to assist in navigating the touchy parts of steemit.
@mudcat36, (he/she is in England somewhere), and @davemccoy, (not sure where he is from), have started a program of help the newbies out. They use the tag #newbieresteemday, I am helping where I can, with their project and have found it to be a rather pleasant thing to do.
At the end of the day we are all responsible for our own happiness and success.
Hi @bashadow I've only just seen this, so I apologise for taking so long to reply. Thank you for taking the time to respond to my post. You ask what I want to use steemit for, and if i'm completely honest, I don't really know. I could probably say yes to all of the points you mentioned. I want to socialise with interesting, intelligent people, create entertaining posts, and make a bit of money at the same time. I would love it to replace fb, twitter etc. cause they really grind my shit. But what i've experienced, it doesn't seem overly sociable. Do people socialise on discord, and use steemit as their blog? I'm not 100% sure how the social side of it works? I have been racking my brain about what I can do, and the thing that appeals to me most is doing videos for Dtube. I also write short stories and screenplays mainly. What about if I write a screenplay, and post a scene at a time? Do you think people would be interested in that? Anyway, thanks again for your advise, it's very much appreciated.
There are a few people that like to read on steemit, me being one of them, so a screenplay being released could make a go of it. Steemchat, and discord chat are fairly active parts of steemit, and most of the teamcanada, teamusa, teamaustrailia, and other team this or that generally have discord chat channels of steem chat channels. so chat is indeed a part of the steemit social side. One of the plus blogsides is that there are few trolls, there are a few of them, but not to many so your blog does not get filled with to much garbage.
Zappl is a twitter equivalent for steemit.
