Foreboding :: Haiku

in #haiku8 years ago (edited)

I'm offering a haiku as a submission to @dbooster's Haiku Contest. Thanks to @jayna for the suggestion to create one!

This haiku and accompanying photo suggests that even when things are peaceful, we should prepare for the oncoming storm in whatever form it takes. I took the photo while beach walking, and even while I watched the sunrise eat the sliver of moon in the sky, I feared the oncoming rain would catch me before I could make it to dry safety.

I titled this Foreboding as a play on the beach photos I posted earlier on Sunday, which were also a bit stormy and dark. Foreboding is the theme for today!

Foreboding

moon peeks in the east
a mightier storm perceived
darkens in the west

Oh it’s lovely, @negativer! I love those skies where peacefulness reins over one view of the sky and drama over another. You’ve captured that beautifully.

Thanks @jayna! I'm glad I saw yours and was inspired. Haiku is super fun to write; all the fancy trimmings of other poetry are stripped away and you can just say what you want to say without worrying about if it's clever enough or metaphorical enough.

Oh that’s so true. And yet I still feel like I should take a class in writing in this form if I ever hope to get good at it. My natural creative proclivity seems to be short stories in the range of 4,000 to 7,000 words. So... expressing complete thoughts with anything resembling brevity would not be my strong suit!

Hmm... a haiku class... interesting idea.

Yes, do it! 😊

Woah! A decent haiku! Nice!
Is there a reason Japan is one of your tags? :P

Thx :) Why wouldn't I use Japan as a tag? @dbooster is in japan, and it's his contest, so it's semi-related :)

Okaaaay. I'll buy it I guess. :P

A very atmospherical haiku write, Negativer. Loved the photo too:0

Thanks much!

My pleasure. I love haiku and write them too. If you have a moment stop on in and take a look. Love to have a few more eyes:)

Short and precise...

I think you're a better story teller than Ernest Hemingway...

Lol

I love the vividness of your words and the way the picture makes it real

Steem on

Thanks! I wonder if Ernest Hemingway ever wrote haiku? (I don't believe he did)
