RE: Happy Halvening!

in #halving4 years ago (edited)

I do think reducing supply is a nice thing because it makes miners who come early to earn more which leads them to speculate that they make more money in the long run. But at the other hand halving is a very radical solution, for why not just cutting quarter away? Atleast it would keep the network more secure.

Why stop there? Why aren't we re-targeting inflation every month or even every block?
The code to accomplish such a thing is trivial.

There is also another issue. By cutting inflation drastically like we are doing we force miners to be more efficient with their energy costs. This will cause many miners to heat homes with the lost energy or use/develop renewable energy strategies.

There's also the issue of hype. Volatility creates a lot of hype and brings in all the gamblers and makes world news time and time again. Doesn't even matter if the news is a bunch of people losing 90% of their money. All publicity is good publicity.

I think this is something Satoshi Nakamoto actually thought a lot about before implementing such a brutal inflation cut all at once.
