Introducing @health-trail (part of the SteemTrail curation initiative)

in #health8 years ago (edited)

@health-trail is the name for the new health channel on SteemTrail, and we’re looking for your posts on health!

This includes:
• Nutrition
• Fitness
• Healthy lifestyle
• Bodywork
• Natural healing methods

We are not covering medicine though, which will be covered by @science-trail.

What is SteemTrail?

Briefly, this means that we look for authors who are writing about health and not getting enough attention. We verify that what they’re posting is their own material, and upvote them with the power of SteemTrail behind the vote.

Read more about SteemTrail here.

Part of our job will be to help grow the categories, and eventually sub-categories, and help nurture the writers, especially newcomers. That might mean pointing out some ways they can improve their writing.

About the @health-trail curators

At the moment, there are just two of us, and we’re already busy people. Because we are at opposite sides of the world, we will be curating at different times.

@kiwideb (Deb) is a nutrition coach and natural therapist from New Zealand. See her introduction post here and her post on becoming a curator here

@neptun (Andreas) is a GP from Germany, with 30 years clinical experience. He specialises in homeopathy and natural healing, and has some knowledge of Traditional Chinese Medicine. Read more about him here. (scroll down the post a little to read about him.)

We need more health and fitness curators!

We will curate when we can, but we’re expecting the category to grow. So we need some more curators to come on board.

We especially need a couple of fitness curators, as we probably won’t be able to cover that area yet.

Tips for getting your posts noticed by us

Firstly, you want to attract our attention. So choose your tags carefully. For example, always put health as your main tag.

Make sure you’re posting original material. It will help if you make it easy for us to verify what is your original content, and what is from another source. So cite your sources where applicable.

Judicious editing is usually a good idea. If your post is too long, your readers may lose interest and go elsewhere. But you also don’t want to be too brief. Just a link, photo a video with no commentary doesn’t show us what YOU know or think about the subject.

To make your post more readable, it’s good to vary the font size or boldness, or split the text up a bit. You can do this by selecting Editor when you start to type up your story in “submit a story”, or by manually adding Markdown tags. Read more here: http://www.markdowntutorial.com/

Use relevant pictures to break up the text. If you use your own photos, say so. But if you’ve used other people’s pictures, it’s good protocol to acknowledge your source. If you don't say anything about your pictures, we will ask you to, before we will consider your post.

The other good thing with having pictures is that you get a thumbnail next to your title. So choose something eye catching for your first image.

A catchy title also helps to attract readers. Plus the first line of your text shows up on the feed, so make that interesting too.

Here are three useful posts from @thecryptofiend:

Here's a guide on how to add pictures to your post. Note that there are now other image storage sites available, such as steemimg.com

Another tip is to join www.Steemit.chat and join the Steemprentice group. Here’s one of their recent posts that includes a link to their FAQ document.

We look forward to seeing you on the health trail!
