Major Depressive Disorder: The World in Black and White

Depression is common nowadays and according to World Health Organization (WHO) in 2010, depression carries the heaviest burden of mental disability which account for 3.7% of all United State disability adjusted life years (DALYs) and 8.3% of all United State years lived with disability (YLDs). It is a serious medical illnesses which can negatively affect how we feel, changes the way we think and affect the action that we are going to take. There are variety of symptoms (must at last at least 2 weeks) which could describe depression:

  • Feeling sad
  • Loss of interest with enjoyed activities
  • Trouble falling asleep (insomnia) or sleeping too much (hypersomnia)
  • Weight loss or gain unrelated to dieting
  • Feeling worthless or guilty
  • Difficulty in concentrating
  • Suicidal thoughts

The most common thing that happens to me when I get depressed is not finding enjoyment in any of the activities I’m supposed to like. It really makes you feel helpless in what to do with your day because even things you LOVE seem bland.
