Purpose of Pain

in #health6 years ago

I’ve written before about a partially torn ACL and the benefits of Egoscue postural therapy instead of surgery.

This week I listened to founder, Pete Egoscue, talk about pain. Like golfer Jack Nicklaus was in (and Pete helped him get out of). Like people suffering with fibromyalgia are in.

Now Pete and his team have helped so many people learn to use their bodies properly to avoid pain. My husband included.

But that’s not what he was talking about this week. He was speaking passionately about immortality and making the most of life.

To live a long and healthy life, yes you need to eat well and move properly. But more importantly, Pete advocates doing work that you love, living in the moment, taking chances for fulfillment.

And pain could be part of that picture. Explore what part of your life feels stressed or stuck. Go visit that lifelong friend that you’ve had a falling out with and mend the relationship. Look within to overcome what holds you back from a creative pursuit instead of blaming it on external factors. Figure out why you are holding on to your pain, your crutch, and transform that into a stepping stone to a brighter future.

It was an interesting and inspiring experience.

I’ll leave you with 2 questions he posed:
1 - What job would you do (other than your current one) if you could do any job at all?
2 - Why aren’t you doing it?
