I think, playing God, shouldn't be a concern when advancing us as a species. We have to be cautious and thorough of course. People will stand against gene editing like they do with GMO foods, when they don't even know what GMO is... Fear of the unknown and fear of God's wrath...
We will probably never leave Plato's cave afraid of what might happen.
