WHA Project: will it work?

in #healthcare7 years ago

Research shows that this fast growing market is of big interest today and is good field for innovations through linking healthcare and tracking devices.

WHO Report

As reported by The World Health Organization in the Executive summary of mHealth studies:

While it is anticipated that large-scale and complex programmes will become more common as mHealth matures, strategies and policies that integrate eHealth and mHealth interoperability into health services would be wise. mHealth is no different from other areas of eHealth in its need to adopt globally accepted standards and interoperable technologies, ideally using open architecture. The use of standardized information and communication technologies would enhance efficiency and reduce cost. To accomplish this, countries will need to collaborate in developing global best practices so that data can move more effectively between systems and applications.

Mobile health will advance through creating country-based eHealth strategies that incorporate it into the existing eHealth domain. Policies need to be complemented by standards, architectures, and solid partnerships to help pilot mHealth initiatives mature and realize their full potential – utilizing mobile and wireless technologies to improve health and well-being.

  Health insurance companies

Health insurance companies could also play a key role in encouraging health and fitness tracking. While just under half of respondents said they would use a free fitness tracker, 57.1 percent said they would be more likely (or much more likely) to adopt digital fitness tracking if they could receive lower premiums on their health insurance.

For maximum impact, healthcare providers and health insurance companies should partner together to promote self-tracking both in physician’s offices and during insurance enrollment. A combined effort could successfully convince over half of currently non-tracking adults to monitor such information. The resulting data would be a treasure trove for patient outcome research and preventative best practices.

  Insurance Business Magazine

63% of insurers believe wearables will transform industry.

Almost two-thirds of insurers expect wearable technology to have a “significant impact” on the industry, according to a new survey of global insurance executives conducted as part of Accenture’s yearly Technology Vision report.

In particular, 63% believe that wearables will see wide-scale adoption in the next two years.

Lending credit to that prophecy is the fact that 31% currently leverage wearable devices to engage and interact with consumers, employees or partners.

“While insurers have traditionally based their underwriting and pricing processes on a limited view of certain customer variables, emerging technologies such as wearables and other connected devices can help insurers break from their traditional business models and provide outcome-based services for their customers,” John Cusano, senior managing director of Accenture’s global insurance practice, said in a statement.
