Choosing Winners: How Selection Decides Which Seeds Get to Grow

in #healthy4 months ago (edited)

Oh my goodness! Today is Friday!

It's queen Esther here again.

Greetings to you all. Guys! did you know what I did?

I took Mummy’s phone and with my big brother’s help I did so much!

Suspense! My mum would never give me her phone! Her camera 📸 is clear and her phone is new.

So, my Agric Studies teacher talked about thinning . They say that it occurs when you take out the weak plants so the strong ones can grow better.

My brother is a pro. Daddy too. They showed me how to choose the best seedlings. And guess what? I want to show you what I learned! You're my number one fan, right? 💖

..... Planting! It’s easy... but then why do we always say, “Oh no! The maize isn't growing!” (Hmm... maybe because we didn't do it right!)

I was so excited that after we cleared the ground I didn’t even check the corn properly! Boom! I just went straight to planting!

Then my brother said, “Agriculture means choosing the best seeds genetically and phenotypically.” I blinked. “Brother... what is phenotype?” He smiled and said, “It’s how a plant looks because of both its genes and the environment.”

He told me to pick the biggest healthiest-looking corn seeds. Some were broken and some had little weevils in them , yuck! Those ones won’t grow.

Boom! That’s when I got it! Selection means removing the bad seeds and keeping only the good ones!

Bingo! That was what he said. They smiled. My brother....

David and Joseph are my brothers.

I told my mum that I took her phone but she was not annoyed!
