With the new Witchwood Hearthstone expansion comes along a new year, the Year of the Raven. With the Year of the Raven comes a new standard rotation and much more which I will discuss below. The official Hearthstone post can be found here.

New Standard Rotation

With the new year the following 3 sets from 2016 will be rotated to Wild:

  • Whispers of the Old God
  • One Night In Kharazhan
  • Mean Streets of Gadjetzan

Some decks that will be affected by these changes include "Jade druid" completely leaving standard and "Cubelock" losing N'zoth as a tool to refill the board

Quest Changes

An unexpected yet welcome change was the increase in gold rewards and reduction of length of the daily quests. 40 Gold quests now give 50 Gold and Quest completion requirements will be reduced. An example of this is:

  • OLD: Win 2 games with one of two Classes. Reward: 40 gold.
  • NEW: Win 1 game with one of two Classes. Reward: 50 gold

Hall of Fame Inductees

Classic cards that move into the Hall of Fame become usable only in the Wild format. This year the cards moving to the hall of fame are:

  • Ice Block
  • Molten Giant (Unnerfed form)
  • Coldlight Oracle

Along with the Hall of Fame induction, the above cards will have their dust refunded once the year begins. A quick rundown, you will only gain the dust value up to the maximum number of cards you could put in a deck (legendaries 1 and other cards 2) and if you have both the golden and regular version of the card, you will get the golden version's dust value

In-Game Tournaments

Not much information has been released about this so this will be brief but so far we know that you can create custom tournaments with friends with deck checking and matchmaking and that the Beta will begin sometime mid-2018

New Druid Hero: Lunara

Much like last year, with the New Year comes a new hero, and this year it is Lunara, a dryad and the daughter of the demi-god Cenarius. She can be obtained by winning 10 games of Hearthstone in Standard Causal or Ranked when the next expansion launches.

What do you think of the Year of the Raven?

That's all the information we have on the upcoming year of Hearthstone, what do you think of the changes? Do you like the choices for the Hall of Fame or do you think other cards should have been selected?
