Asteroid Hecate (asteroid #100) is a minor astrological asteroid that was discovered and named after the goddess on July 11, 1868. It defines our inner feelings - feminine ways of knowing, intuitive wisdom. Hecate is sometimes important during or in connection with childbirth, and can also show what wisdom is gained at different stages of life. This asteroid shows where our deepest trust in ourselves can be developed. It demonstrates why we are often afraid to look at our "shadow self" (in this case, our power). Hecate reminds us that our greatest fear... is not our insignificance, but our greatness.

By looking at her position in the natal chart, we can see in which astrological sign and in which house she is located. The sign in which Hecate is located determines what we need to do to recognize our life path; the natal house in which Hecate is located can show where we need to move to find those parts of ourselves that have been lost. By analyzing the nature of the sign it is in, as well as its position in the house and its aspects to the major planets of the septener, conclusions can be drawn about the global challenges we face in life and the resources available to meet them.

Working with the energies of the Goddess, it is also worth keeping track of the asteroid's movement and position on the celestial chart at a given moment in time to get additional clues and answers for yourself. When you find out who Hecate is and what she has to say to you at that moment, you will discover a huge source of information that you didn't even know you had.

Activation of this asteroid is best expressed in aspects, either natal or in synastry with another person's planet/asteroid. Aspects to Hecate in a general relationship are as follows:

Planets in square or opposition to Hecate tend to indicate a reclusive lifestyle of a person, a reluctance to start a family.
Connecting one person's Hecate with a planet in another person's chart brings a sense of support and guidance, especially during difficult or dark times in their life.
Hecate in opposition to planets can indicate a situation where opposites attract; a loved one functions as a support.
In the psyche, Hecate represents the boundaries between the conscious and unconscious. With her torches she sheds light on our own shadows and awakens our own demons so that we can see them clearly and interact with them. As the goddess of crossroads and transitions, Hecate in astrology is associated with our own transitions. Hecate can help us see our true choices. She reveals what was once hidden and perhaps what we were afraid to see. Hecate will not allow us to remain in the dark for long. She is there when the door behind us has closed and the door ahead has not yet opened. She is the boundary between what was, what is and what will be. She is death and rebirth. Having an affinity with the Moon, it probably also represents the madness that arises when we try to ignore our instinctive and emotional responses. Through self-knowledge and inner wisdom we return to our own light. Hecate teaches us that the real magic lies within us.
