Hello, fellow Steemians.
I would like to start an account under my pen name. When I tried setting up a new account, it wouldn't allow it because my cell phone is already in use. I'm not trying to game the system and upvote myself or whatever. For one thing, I don't really have time for that. I just want to post some stuff anonymously and see how the earnings of those posts compare to what I post under this name.
I tried a Google Voice number and even though it receives texts, that didn't work. I posted the question on BurstNation about it and it was suggested I sign up with Reddit. I've created and gained some "karma" on there, but now I don't see the option to sign up here with Reddit! I'm chasing my tail here!
@sykochica - do you have any insight on how to help?
THIS!!! THIS THIS THIS! THIS is what I love love love about this community! Sometimes I disappear for a couple of days for one reason or another, but I will KEEP COMING back due to this type of team work. Thank you thank you @merej99 for referring my problem to someone you knew would have the answer. No, my keyboard isn't sticky, I just repeat myself when i'm super excited!
Don't get too excited until it WORKS! LOL
Glad I could help. :)
Why yes @merej99...I do have some ideas.
As you found each phone number (which yea..has to be a standard landline/cell number...google or text numbers won't work) can only make one account (to prevent bots) as well as the previously used way of signing up via facebook (with some friends) or reddit (with karma) is no longer available.
So best options I can recommend would be:
A. See if a friend or family member with a phone will let you create the account with it. After the initial registration this phone won't be needed (as far as I know anyway) and this way doesn't cost anything. (I like free!)
B. The user someguy123 on here runs a service called anonsteem to create new accounts with out needing a phone number to validate. However this does cost a little bit, either 0.01 Bitcoin or 2 Litecoin (approximately $7-$10 USD.) I just tried to help someone sign up using this earlier this evening and ended up needing to send an email to him since either I did something wrong or something it wasn't quite working on their end (I dunno which.)
Those are the only methods that I know of at this time. I hope this was helpful!
Thanks a bunch! I'm trying out option 2 right now.
Happy to help. Just as an fyi...I've heard a couple people (not many overall) that have to email the creator of the site, if it glitches and doesn't complete. But he's very good at responding, so don't worry if that happens. :)
