Unless the check engine light is flashing while you are driving, it usually not anything serious. The computer checks sensors all the time and sometimes if a sensor data is out of parameters, then the light will come on. Sometimes it will stay on until reset by turning the ignition switch off and back on. The car's computer will log the sensor that was out of parameter. That information can usually be downloaded for free at autozone. Sometimes the problem is just a glitch, sometimes the sensor is not measuring correctly, and sometimes some part of the car is not performing optimally. Have the fault codes downloaded to see if it is something that you need further troubleshooting.

Thank you for this in-depth and helpful information. I have not had any issues driving it so I agree that it must relate to the computer sensors.
