Herbs for Natural Skin Care

in #herbs7 years ago

A wide variety of herbs can be used to treat all kinds of conditions from rashes to wrinkles. The best way to learn about natural, herbal skin care is through personal experimentation. Begin with a problem you want to solve and then determine which herbs would be best to accomplish your purpose.

Aloe vera extract can be applied fresh from the plant to wrinkles, burns and sun burn. It is both soothing and hydrating. Processed aloe vera juice is an excellent drink for purging toxins from the entire system.

Red clover, rosemary, thyme and sage are good as teas. This is a way to preserve and heal your skin from the inside out.

Witch hazel, lavender and thyme are excellent toners and antiseptics. Chamomile is soothing to the skin. Rose water is a traditionally used as a rinse for naturally beautiful skin.

Tea extracts provide natural protection from UV radiation.

Acne can be treated with one or two applications of tea tree oil. Forage oil, sage oil and evening primrose oil help keep skin younger looking and free of wrinkles.

Acids from fruits like papaya and citrus fruits help heal old scars. So does helichrysum oil. Onion extracts are used in popular over-the-counter scar treatments.

Calendula treats bruises when applied topically. It’s also used along with St. John’s Wort to treat psoriasis.

A major advantage of herbal treatments is that they have few, if any, side effects. They are generally inexpensive. And, you can treat your skin with them topically or use them orally to treat the entire body and improve your skin from the inside out.

While most herbs are safe, many essential oils are not. So, always do your research and observe warnings about herbs that are not intended for oral consumption.
