Wealth Building in Rap Today

in #hiphop7 years ago

Within the past few months, I have noticed a serious uptick in lyrical content talking about wealth and the establishment of "old money". As an accountant that is a long time rap fan, it's super exciting to start hearing mainstream artists talk about making investments, who really runs the industry, and taking steps to generate generational wealth. DJ Khaled has even begun making his infant son Asahd Executive Producer and writer on some songs of his most recent album "Grateful".

This is by no means the first time this has occurred. Nas listed his daughter Destiny as executive producer on "Stillmatic" so she could continue to receive royalty checks from the album's success.

In Jay-Z's most recent album 4:44, he mentions repeatedly that he is excited to pass on someone of his investments to his young children. He even goes further to discuss his regrets about how he spent his early rap money, and how he could have leveraged himself into more lucrative situations.

This is the mindset today's artists need to adopt. This is how you create actual wealth. Not just money. Not just rich for one generation. This is how you flip a 10-15 year music career into something that will continue to feed your family for generations. I really hope this is a trend that catches on; I want nothing more than to see a rap industry filled with businessmen and artists that understand the industry so they can see real profits and gains.

If you like/hate this, please comment and let me know! I'm still trying to figure this stuff out, but I want to deliver actual content that will improve the community and genre in and of itself.
