#INRODUCTION:
This specie is mostly herbivorous, semiaquatic mammal native to sub Saharan Africa. The name comes from the ancient Greek for “RIVER HORSE”. After the elephant and rhinoceros hippo is the third largest type of land mammal and the heaviest extant artiodactyl.
#HOW TO RECOGNIZE THEM?
Although we can recognize it from far away because of its structure but there are few info about hippo I like to share. Common hippo is recognizable by their barrel-shaped torsos, wide opening mouth revealing large canine tusks, nearly hairless body columnar legs and of course large size. Adult average weight is upto 1,500 kg (3,310 lb.) and 1,300 kg (2,870 lb.) for males and females respectively, making them the largest species of land mammal after the elephant and the white and Indian rhinoceros. Despite its bulky shape and short legs it is capable of running 30 km/h (19 mph) over sort distances.
