Dolmens: Amazing Paleolithic Structurers That Look Like Fred Flinstone's House

in #history7 years ago

Dolmens are ancient stone structures that resemble tombs or houses. No one really knows what they are, why they were built, or how old they really are. Some 'experts' say they are around 25,000 years old, other, more conventional archaeologists reckon the date at around 4,000 to 6,000 years ago.

Thousands of these Dolmens are extant in the Western Caucasus mountain ridge - in 12 thousand square kilometers of Russia and Abkhazia. It is interesting that conventional archaeologists say "civilization" first appeared in Sumeria - circa 5500 - 4000 BC. Civilization is evidently predicated upon being able to scratch some markings on wet clay tablets and not on being able to manipulate thousand ton stone roofs to the top of small 'houses'. I guess the roof doesn't leak much.

Experts say that many of these structures are in a "a state of disrepair" - well I guess so! Imagine if you abandoned your house for twenty thousand years... would there be much left?

These structures remind me of something from my childhood, and I guess I am hinting at how old/(ancient) I am as well...

Do you remember "The Flintstones"
