Who in our time has not heard the phrase about the "equalizer of chances" in relation to Colonel Colt's revolver?
So, Samuel Colt received a patent number 9430X for his "drum pistol" on February 25, 1836, there is evidence of this. During the war with Mexico, the advantages of the Colt revolver were fully revealed.
As is usually the case with the inventors of the famous weapons, there are people who doubt the authorship of the Colt.
There are many versions of how exactly the inventor came up with the idea of a revolver. For example, there is a story that a young man, Samuel Colt, ran away from his home and got a job on a merchant ship. On the ship, Colt saw a rotating steering wheel, it was this rotation that prompted Colt to the idea of rotating drums.

By the way, Samuel Colt really was a colonel, although he did not serve a day in the army. The military rank was awarded to him by the governor of the state of Connecticut, for his help in the elections.
