For example, there is a story that a young man, Samuel Colt, ran away from his home and got a job on a merchant ship. By the way, Samuel Colt really was a colonel, although he did not serve a day in the army. The military rank was awarded to him by the governor of the state of Connecticut, for his help in the elections.
