Ancient History

in #historylast year

Hi everyone, I'm curious about how during the Ancient period, Roman and early Christian perception of the different peoples' religions led to our modern understanding of Ancient history.

My original interest was sparked by the note I've found that discusses how the fall of Carthage in 146 BC was so brutal that it left the imprint on the society's conciousness. Mix it with the Roman propaganda that was constantly giving a bad name to their rivals, and later with the Christian ways of interpreting history. It is believed the character of the Egyptian god Bes (adopted among others by Carthaginians) might have affected the image of Christian devil. Greek god Pan and Phoenician god Baal also appear in memory as the examples of something stemming from the ancient times that was (literally) demonized with the course of history.

If you happen to know any literature (books, articles) on that topic, I would be super thankful!
