20 Years of TIME Nostalgia Series Prelude

in #history5 years ago (edited)

Living in the future, it is healthy to enjoy some NOSTALGIA from TIME to TIME.

I recently bought 20 issues of Time magazine from a local library fundraiser/booksale. None were "key" issues per se. But I am finding lots of fascinating gems and interesting tidbits as I peruse the collection. I intentionally chose at least 3 that represented three consecutive decades: 1939, 1949 and 1959.

Join me as I do this Series highlighting various articles, ads and unique discoveries from these 60-80 year old magazines.

Here is a quick sampling from the 1939 volume shown in the image above:

Mmmmmm...mmmm... Don't we all love those syrup soaked pancakes!??

In 1939, before the USA entered WWII, this edition of LIFE is the first time Hitler's Mein Kampf was commercially printed (and maybe the first time in English). I believe this edition has additional articles highlighting the Nazi threat and their propaganda efforts on United States soil.

Radio huh!? 80 years later the internet and now, The Blockchain, are playing even larger formative roles in education!!!

If you see any magazine or multiple ones you would like to buy, they will be available for sell.

USA only please, I imagine the postage will be prohibitive outside the USA. I will accept STEEM, SBD, Litecoin, Dogecoin, Paypal and even will consider SP delegations. About $8.00 USD each, shipping included. I will confirm after I hear of interest and verify postage rates.

Thanks so much!! I look forward to your comments and feedback, and I hope you enjoy the Series!!

Peace

Hope you find lots of interesting things!!

Yes they are!

So far these issues are proving very interesting!!

It looks like there is a lot of history in there! I think this is a neat series.

Are there any comics in those? That would be neat to see!

Thanks

There are indeed some advertisements done in comic strip form. I'll keep my eye open and report back. I do have a colgate ad in comic strip form that I will be sharing...maybe later today.

Peace

My mother had a neat collection of TIME and other old magazines. But she sold them in a yard sale maybe 15 years ago. Later we found out one was probably worth $100.

i enjoy seeing the old ads. A little like watching Superbowl ads.... but paying little attention to the game. XD

Definitely look for articles predicting the future; technology; etc.

THX

Sorry about the missed gem!

I would enjoy articles like that! I will keep my eyes open for sure!!

Peace

I see what you mean here. I would like to see a clear cover page and one full article. The middle school I attended was about 150 years old. We had old National Geographic magazines from 1909 in the boiler room. Some janitor must have sold them by now.

I can certainly do that!

Wow! 1909!
That is the year the Lincoln Cent first came out. And still the same obverse design. I bet in 1909 a National Geographic cost 10cents or probably less. Now a new one is maybe $5!? I wander what a mid grade copy of the very first National Geographic would sell for?

Anyway, keep your eye on my blog, more to come soon!

Peace

i love those old magazines, I have quite a few myself... I like going through them and seeing the prices of things too... And they claim we have little to no inflation!!! Good to see you back posting @em3... and good way to start :)

Sounds like a good focus to do a Post on....though, I don't recall seeing prices in these....maybe in the back in ads section. And the covers. The 1939 was 10c. The 1949 was 20c. That is 100% inflation!! 😲

I'll take a look 👀 and report back! 👍
