MonochromeMonday, Time travel - My grandmother, when she was young

in #history8 years ago (edited)

My father's mother, Hermina Balas Sipeki was born in April 1897 and died in the fall of 1988. When she was 2, she lost her mother. In her young age, she became a ladie's companion in the Majtényi Castle in Verseg (Pest county, Hungary).

My grandmother, when she was 18:

Other interesting things:

Did my grandmother ever have a connection with Béla Balás Sipeki, the builder of Sipeki-Balas villa (now the Blind Institute)? Still a mystery to me! The building was designed by Ödön Lechner, one of the greatest Art Nouveau architects of the age, situated in Herminamező(!!!), Budapest.

The beautiful building:

That face 1-year-old you is making is hilarious! That building is really cool, by the way.

What an interesting life she must have had! Great old photos.

Interesting to learn about one's family tree and see vintage photographs of relatives who resemble us. Thanks for sharing a bit of yourself with us @kalemandra! Upvoted and following
