One of the points of the Colombian peace process with the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia - People's Army (FARC-EP), is the symbolic victims reparation, which includes that leaders of the subversive group asking for forgiveness for their crimes against the relatives of the victims, and give to the country an explanation about the whereabouts of the disappeared. In other words, the symbolic victims reparation implies that there will be recognition and clarification of the most serious events occurred during 50 years of war.
Thinking about this, I believe that we all can and should become peace builders, and I really think that education and history are the most powerful tools for generate social conscience. Studying and teaching our history we can achieve, first, the truth recognition for commemorate and honor the memory of the victims, and second, that our children know the previously social, economic and political processes that have taken our society to the current situation.
I was studying the first world war history and the second world war history just a year ago, in the Diana Uribe's youtube channel (Colombian historian ), and I only have one thing to say: "She has opened my eyes". I understood a little bit more about the current world situation and conflicts, and the importance of make available to everyone our wars history in an interactive and funny way, always teaching impartially and faithful to the truth.
In Colombia has been created the The National Center for Historical Memory’s. It was a research group of the National University Of Colombia, but with the peace agreement between the Colombian government and the FARC–EP, this was transformed to be a Public establishment of the national order. The following text is taking directly from their webpage:
"The National Center for Historical Memory’s (NCHM) purpose is to
contribute to the comprehensive reparation and to the right to the
truth for the victims of the Colombian armed conflict as well as
society in general.
The Center accomplishes this by reconstructing, through the
testimony of victims, the serious human rights violations that
occurred in the framework of the conflict, searching for truth,
sustainable and lasting peace".

I'm from El Líbano, a town and municipality in the North of Tolima department, Colombia. Now I'm really interested in my birthplace history, and I found an amazing fact:
"The movement of the Bolcheviques del Líbano has the
exceptional merit of being the first armed insurrection in
Latin America, in which an army of peasants poses the
problem of the conquest of power in the name of socialist ideas."

We can promote and share the creation of historical documentation, we can create it ourselves. Study of our local history could be exciting and engaging and we will become peace builders. I invite steemit community to research and share their local history facts. I will be sharing some historical data about our internal conflict, that although it has taken a big step with the peace process, it is far from being solved.
Interesting. Been in Colombia many years ago - beautiful country, great and extremely friendly people but could not see all I wanted because of the conflict. Great that this chapter is being closed for good.
BTW Socialism/communism sucks - believe me, as I have been living in such system for the first 20 years of my life. It looks good on the paper but we were used to say that it's like cheap make of a toilet paper: long, grey and only good to wipe your ass. No offence intended 😉

I don't know much about Columbia, only that it was troubled with conflict. My husband and I have been to Chile, Peru, Equador through the Panama Canal. We missed Columbia. South America is really beautiful. Thank you for sharing your history. Very important for us outsiders to know.
