Couldn't pass this opportunity to snap a beautiful sunset at the Colosseum:
Its hard to believe that close to 4 million feet of stone was used for just the outer wall! Walking by the iconic symbol of Rome always makes you stop and realize the beauty of history. The first stones that were placed to start building the Colosseum took place at 72 AD under the emperor Vespasian.
The colosseum was built initially to bring all the people together during hard times to distract them with gladiator contest battles and even animal hunts . It was estimated that over 350,000 people died in the Colosseum and even more animals. It was also free admission to everyone in Rome.
After the Colosseum was partially destroyed by the earthquake, some of the fallen pieces were actually used to build St Peter's Basilica.
I will be heading back again next year!
Oh wow 😮. The view is breathtaking.
