20M SP participating in the proposal system seems underwhelming given the amount of stake available outside of STINC's.
Kinda funny how a lot of people dislike their government, but decided that it's a good idea to not participate with their stake even in this system.
A lot of stake is sleeping and a lot of users just don’t participate. It’s fairly common to get low % of participation in most everything in life.
That's also a fair point.
hm .. an expiration date on crypto might be the future ... no need to ask your local plankton to burn :)
I wonder, is there some place to see easily how much stake has been active at all in the past day, 7 days, 30 days, etc.
I'm sure you are right that a lot of it is deep asleep, but it would be good to know just how much. This would help us assess how far we have to go to get broad(er) participation with SPS.

Well it's nice seeing you think the SPS is still decently viable.
I liked the video and the explanations well done.
Since we're on the subject of SPS...
I just don't think we'll see many proposals for a while because it's just too much of a hassle and any large proposal requests are almost default not going to get voted on, that and everyone seems to have a decently large set of red flag no-vote triggers. And more or less the attitude is scarcity mentality (which i can undestand because of the state of steem the last year or two).
So we're left with making a proposal representing: 1. lot's of drama for the proposer, 2. lots of work to get that much vote value and 3. not lots of money. That's a perfect storm for this thing to basically to sit on ICE for a while. Some day it'll be useful again... i still believe in the idea but right now it's basically the perfect conditions for not much action and creativity.
Mostly it's the scarcity mentality and probably mixed in with a touch of vindictiveness in voting behavior.
It's not ideal but it is better than what we had. Unfortunately, one community accounts for over 50% of the votes and it is virtually impossible to approve anything now without them.

I could give more examples, but I am tired. I have been curating posts today trying to give encouragement to the community.
This down-voting/flagging nonsense and the innocents that are pulled into the personal feuds of others (and it is not just your feuding, there are other feuds taking place on this platform) is not conducive to anyone's emotional or mental health.
The foregoing reason is why I will not visit this topic with you again.

I understand it a little bit better, I see that line now! It's kinda hard to grasp with the return proposal and all. Is the return proposal just like voting NO? Why don't they just make it simple vote YES or NO instead of calling it a return proposal? Return proposal sounds so abstract. I still don't totally grasp the system but i did vote on something before, and that's the main thing right?How do you track the ongoing proposals and such? Could someone scam the SPS system, get money and not do anything??? Like a George Castanza SPS? lol Who's watching? These are my questions that come to the top of my head after watching your video.
Then return proposal sets the minimum bar a project must cross to get funded. How would you decide the minimum bar in a yes/no voting system?

I only use the SteemPeak interface for it, but you can see active, upcoming, etc. proposals.
In theory, yes. Say, if 20M SP worth of stake want to collude to extract funds, they could. But, it becomes a rather pricey endeavor. As of now, only STINC could cheat with impunity, but that will tank the price quicker than it's going right now.

Can you do proposals for anything? What about could I do a proposal for STEEM for gas money to go fly my drone around and take surf pics so my blog? What are the rules?
It's generally about building something on the Steem blockchain.
Basically, instead of using the reward pool, the stakeholders can decide if the blockchain will pay you directly to complete a project. Of course, people would want you to keep them updated, or you could lose funding when people withdraw their votes for your proposal.
