En el Ojo del Ciclón
Los ciclones son caos, tormenta, fuerza y destrucción. Sin embargo, dentro de ese caos existe un pequeño espacio de calma absoluta, de tranquilidad y silencio donde se puede ver el cielo e incluso sentir el sol. Es el orden dentro de un muro de aparente desorden. Precisamente ese es el nombre de uno de los proyectos de arte comunitario que se encuentra en La Habana Vieja, en la esquina entre las calles O’Reilly y Villegas: El Ojo del Ciclón, un espacio creado por el artista cubano Leo D’ Lázaro donde se entremezclan varias manifestaciones artísticas.
Y creo que esa justamente debe ser la primera sensación que tiene cada persona que visita el lugar por primera vez y se detiene en la puerta de entrada, la impresión de haber entrado en un gran torbellino, una amalgama de formas de hacer el arte, de imágenes, fotos, pinturas y esculturas que se mezclan unas con otras, de objetos anacrónicos sin orden aparente que parecen sacados de otro tiempo.
Pero después todo ese caos se transforma en silencio, calma y paz, y todo va tomando un orden y descubres que cada objeto y cada decoración tiene un sentido y un espacio. El desorden aparente va cobrando sentido y entiendes por qué se llama El Ojo del Ciclón, la calma dentro de una tormenta. Una tormenta de ideas, de creatividad y de buen arte.
Algo que me gusta de este sitio, al que he ido en varias ocasiones, es que todo cambia, como los ciclones, como la naturaleza y la vida que se renueva a cada paso. Cada vez que voy las cosas están movidas de sitio, cambiadas y siempre aparece algo nuevo. Quizás no sea tan nuevo y simplemente sea alguna pieza en la que antes no había reparado.
Este sitio no es solo el estudio de Leo D’ Lázaro y su lugar de trabajo, sino también un punto de encuentro gratuito para artistas, vecinos del barrio y cualquier visitante que desee entrar a recorrer el local. Aquí además de las obras de su creador se presentan colaboraciones de otros artistas, fomentando la creatividad compartida y la unión de diferentes estilos.
El Ojo del Ciclón es más que un espacio de arte, es además un refugio donde el caos se convierte en belleza y donde cada visita es distinta porque siempre hay algo nuevo que descubrir. Es un recordatorio de que el arte es movimiento y transformación.

Cyclones are chaos, storm, force, and destruction. However, within that chaos there exists a small space of absolute calm, of tranquility and silence where one can see the sky and even feel the sun. It is order within a wall of apparent disorder. Precisely that is the name of one of the community art projects that is found in Old Havana, on the corner between O’Reilly and Villegas streets: The Eye of the Cyclone, a space created by the Cuban artist Leo D’ Lázaro where various artistic manifestations intermingle.
And I believe that precisely that must be the first sensation that each person has who visits the place for the first time and stops at the entrance door, the impression of having entered into a great whirlwind, an amalgam of ways of making art, of images, photos, paintings and sculptures that mix with one another, of anachronistic objects without apparent order that seem taken from another time.
But afterwards all that chaos transforms into silence, calm and peace, and everything begins to take on an order and you discover that each object and each decoration has a meaning and a space. The apparent disorder begins to make sense and you understand why it is called The Eye of the Cyclone, the calm within a storm. A storm of ideas, of creativity, and of good art.
Something that I like about this place, which I have gone to on several occasions, is that everything changes, like cyclones, like nature and life that renews itself at every step. Each time I go things are moved from place, changed, and something new always appears. Perhaps it is not so new and simply some piece that I had not noticed before.
This place is not only the studio of Leo D’ Lázaro and his workplace, but also a free meeting point for artists, neighbors of the neighborhood, and any visitor who wishes to enter to tour the premises. Here, in addition to the works of its creator, collaborations of other artists are presented, fostering shared creativity and the union of different styles.
The Eye of the Cyclone is more than an art space, it is also a refuge where chaos becomes beauty and where each visit is different because there is always something new to discover. It is a reminder that art is movement and transformation.
