Amigos de hive hoy me fui con mi cuñado a su huerto. ¡Qué tremenda sequía! El verde del campo se va apagando. El tiene muchos cultivos sembrados pero necesitan agua. La tierra es áspera y dura en este sitio y necesita agua.
La entrada de la pequeña finquita está muy bonita con varias matas de coco, mango, café, palmas reales y palma cana esta última le da nombre al lugar "Finca Cana Alta". Además un pequeño chalet dónde vive un sobrino del propietario de la vega.
El lugar es muy bonito es semi montañoso, ya aquí estamos al borde de la Cordillera de Guaniguanico en la porción que le corresponde al municipio de Pinar del Río, en la provincia de Cuba que tiene el mismo nombre. Es lindo pero ya necesita que llueva. Luis últimos aires fríos han resecado mucho la hierva, la tierra y los cultivos. Algo que le da una vista muy agradable es la existencia de bejucos florecidos que en el campo le llaman aguinaldo.
Entramos a la finca, aquí jugamos un ratico mi caballo, mi perro Rambo, los bueyes y yo. Corrimos un poco hasta que llegó mi cuñado y me puse a ayudarlo un poco a limpiar la siembra de malas hiervas. Allí hay un viejo pozo de agua, pues antiguamente hubo una casa en el lugar.
Antes aquello estaba más cuidado tenía una siembra a su alrededor de plantas espinosas y una tapa de hierro para que no se pudiera acercar niños, ni animales. También había una tina de ladrillos rojos para tomar agua los animales pero eso no está ya. El pozo abandonado tiene agua abundante pero solo sirve para darle a los animales y para sacar con una regadera o varios tanques para regar manualmente los cultivos.
Realmente es una práctica agotadora. Así que le propuse a mi cuñado conectar la pequeña turbina de la casa y regar las plantas. Bueno pues fue un reto porque la electricidad está a más de 40 metros, así que buscamos un rollo de cables nuevos y sin roturas y así hicimos una extensión. En menos de veinte minutos estábamos regando.
Déjeme contarles, ahí tiene sembrado coles, lechugas, rábanos, tomates y pepinos, así que pronto tendremos garantizada la ensalada. En otro pedacito varios surcos de frijoles, maíz y yuca. Para los sazones ajo y cebolla.
Por allá más lejos unos surcos de piña. Vamos a ver si progresan ahora con el agua. Porque la verdad que están secándose. Ahora mismo de provecho solo hay rábanos recolectamos unos cuantos.
También en el lugar mi cuñado siembra arroz y quimbombó pero ya esa cosecha pasó. En otro espacio de la vega arde un pequeño horno de carbón. Este es muy pequeño porque ya casi está listo y se ha pegado a la tierra, es de por lo menos cinco sacos.
Los animales que vimos fueron los bueyes Comandante y Coronel y mi caballo. Los carneros no estaban por ahí los pasaron a otra vega rotando su pastoreo. Fue una tarde muy productiva. Vamos a er cómo progresa el huerto con el agua. Ya les contaré. Gracias por acompañarme hasta aquí y tengan feliz jornada.

Hive friends today I went with my brother-in-law to his orchard. What a tremendous drought! The green of the field is fading. He has many crops planted but they need water. The soil is rough and hard in this place and needs water.
The entrance of the small finquita is very nice with several coconut, mango, coffee, royal palms and palma cana which gives the place its name "Finca Cana Alta". There is also a small chalet where a nephew of the owner of the farm lives.
The place is very beautiful, it is semi mountainous, here we are at the edge of the Guaniguanico Mountain Range in the portion that corresponds to the municipality of Pinar del Rio, in the province of Cuba that has the same name. It is beautiful but it needs to rain. Luis recent cold air has dried out the grass, the soil and the crops. Something that gives it a very nice view is the existence of flowering lianas that in the countryside they call aguinaldo.
We entered the farm, here we played for a while with my horse, my dog Rambo, the oxen and me. We ran a little until my brother-in-law arrived and I started to help him to clean the weeds in the field. There is an old water well there, as there used to be a house there.
It used to be a more well-kept area with thorny plants around it and an iron cover so that children and animals could not get close to it. There was also a red brick tub for the animals to drink water from, but that is no longer there. The abandoned well has abundant water but it is only used to feed the animals and to draw water from with a watering can or several tanks to manually irrigate the crops.
It really is an exhausting practice. So I proposed to my brother-in-law to connect the small turbine in the house and water the plants. Well it was a challenge because the electricity is more than 40 meters away, so we looked for a roll of new and unbroken wires and so we made an extension. In less than twenty minutes we were watering.
Let me tell you, he has sown cabbage, lettuce, radishes, tomatoes and cucumbers there, so soon we will have guaranteed salad. In another little piece several rows of beans, corn and yucca. For seasoning garlic and onion.
Farther away some pineapple grooves. Let's see if they progress now with the water. Because the truth is that they are drying out. Right now there are only a few radishes that are profitable.
Also in the place my brother-in-law grows rice and okra, but that harvest has already passed. In another area of the vega burns a small charcoal oven. This one is very small because it is almost ready and has stuck to the ground, it is at least five sacks.
The animals we saw were the oxen Commander and Colonel and my horse. The rams were not around they were moved to another vega rotating their grazing. It was a very productive afternoon. Es bueno tener nuestro autoconsumo... sería genial que crearan un sistema para aprovechar el agua del pozo... creo que sería la solución a la sequía
Sí, usted tiene razón, ya comprobé que el pozo no se agota aún cuando pasamos dos horas y media regando aunque el chorro es pequeño de una pulgada. Los cultivos se regaron muy bien. Y ya se ven diferentes. Tenemos que asegurar la electricidad y una base para la bomba. Gracias por su opinión.
