Poor Jamie - when we started this project, we agreed we'd only work on it when we fancied it, rather that it being all consuming. But that's not how he operates. He's got a bit of a deadline in his own head of getting a rolling chassis so at least he can roll it out of the shed so he's got more space to do other things.
This week has been lots and lots of sandblasting, priming and painting parts.
He also discovered this masking tape hack to stop paint dribbling down the tin, which is pretty cool.
We did learn something interesting this week as well. The colour we got is Limestone, which is a Land Rover colour. However, apparently some of the Australian Series Land Rovers were painted in a Dulux colour which was sandstone, a much more buttery yellow.
Our Series has actually been painted in two colours - the tub is paler, and the inside more sandstone. As we are painting everything it doesn't really matter. We are a bit fussy on painting in proper Land Rover colours so we are firmly going with the Limestone - though I'd go white if I had a choice haha!
This is what the car looked like when we got it, if you missed it.
The rims are now done - hopefully we'll get Falken Wild Peaks on them by the weekend, so we can get the chassis rolling. The back diff and springs are on, but the front diff still needs more degreasing and has taken hours already to get to a reasonable point so we can prime and paint it.
Here's the chassis hanging so we could paint it. Hopefully it'll last another 50 years.
The engine's looking bloody awesome as well. That's another interesting colour thing - the duck egg blue that enthusiasts call this paint colour was called 'light admiralty grey' by Land Rover in the manuals because some battleships were painted this colour to blend in with that kind of blue grey you'd find on the horizon.
Hopefully we'll go away next week and get a break from the shed.

great job
Jamie has got a magic hand to reinvent it like a new, quite an inspiration to learn how planned work with patience and perseverance yields result.
He has got a a bit of a magic touch!
Progress!!! 👏
It's looking great. Love the colors. So calm and pleasing!
I'll be damned!
The colour really looks safari-ish! Love it! Would not have it any other way!
YEAHP! It goes like that once you're in the flow of these things it's hard to stop! At times you get the urge to do something in the middle of the night xD! It's consuming it really is because you can almost envision the end product and that is a drive of a different sort!
Keep it up!
Neat! I have never seen the masking tape trick on the paint tin. I will have to try it.
