Curated Content Collections (CCC)

in TheTerminal3 years ago

Almost two months ago, the @peakd team announced a new feature on their enhanced https://peakd.com interface to the Hive blockchain: Curated Content Collections (CCC). At the time, I remember thinking, "Oh, that's cool"  but didn't really ponder the full potential of what Collections had to offer. Then, other activities on the blockchain and in Discord groups kept me distracted from Collections until I almost forgot about them.

So, what is this thing...?

A Curated Content Collection is a collection of links to posts with a similar theme. They can be posts by one author, or several authors. This enables curators to assemble a collection of posts relating to #food, #poetry, #art, or any other topic. They can be more specific, for example, instead of merely grouping many #travel posts together, the collections could focus on #waterfalls, #mountains, #lakes, #hiking, #skiing, or any other specific subject.

One really clever use of Collections is currently being implemented by the @newbies-guide, where "how to..." posts that might be of interest to those new to the Hive blockchain are being gathered into various collections such as "Writing and Formatting Tips," "Security and Keys," and so forth. Follow the @newbies-guide account to watch as new collections are added!

On the https://peakd.com interface, Curated Content Collections are easily seen highlighted on the blog page of the curator, as well as in the Feed of those who follow the curator. The title chosen by the curator is also prefaced with "CCC/" while regular posts are not highlighted, nor do they have "CCC/" before the title. One can also click "Collections" in the menu under the blog header to find quickly all the Collections by that curator. (See the screenshot, below.)

If a Curated Content Collection is opened on the https://peakd.com interface, you will see a description at the top, and a lovely set of embedded links with thumbnails & descriptions, just as one would see the posts in a Feed or on a blog page! (see screenshot, below) 😃

Viewing the collection on another interface such as https://ecency.com or https://hive.blog will look like a boring list of links, which might still be useful, to a point, but definitely not quite as helpful as having the thumbnails and descriptions of the posts. I hope that @good-karma & the developers that maintain @ecency as well as whomever maintains the "Condenser" software (which is used by Hive.Blog and most Tribes) will consider adding enhanced support for Curated Content Collections in the future!

until then...

View the Collections with https://peakd.com for maximum benefit!

In the past few days, I have created Collections of some of my past thematic posts, organized by topic:

I will try to remember to update these Collections as new posts are added to match the themes, so that these can serve as a valid index. These Collections will definitely be used heavily by me, if not by some of my readers, too. I have been maintaining several text files on my laptop for similar purposes, but having them on-chain will be easier! I give ⭐️ a gold star & thanks to @jarvie, @asgarth, and the whole @peakd team for this great idea! 😁

Very cool. Believe it or not, I actually understand a little better what these collections are being used for. Thanks!
