Polyommatus daphnis (Denis & Schiffermüller, 1775)

Der Zahnflügel-Bläuling ist ein Tagfalter aus der Familie der Bläulinge (Lycaenidae). Der Falter fliegt auf blütenreichen Wiesen bevorzugt auf Magerrasen. Der Zahnflügel-Bläuling fliegt von Juni bis August in einer Generation. Nachfolgen der erste Fund am Morgen mit Tautropfen benetzt.

The Meleager's blue is a butterfly of the family Lycaenidae. The butterfly flies on flowery meadows, preferably on nutrient-poor grassland. The Meleager's blue flies from June to August in one generation. Following the first find in the morning wetted with dew drops.

Als ich durch das hohe Gras bei diesem Exemplar angekommen bin, war der Falter schon trocken. Ich hingegen hatte eine vollkommen durchnässte Hose. Das Motiv war den Weg durch die Wiese definitiv wert. So zart präsentierte sich der Falter im Morgenlicht. Damit er nicht gleich davon fliegt, habe ich ihn mit einem Reflektor abgeschattet.

When I arrived at this specimen through the high grass, the butterfly was already dry. I, on the other hand, had completely soaked trousers. The motif was definitely worth the walk through the meadow. The butterfly presented itself so delicately in the morning light. To prevent it from flying away, I shadowed it with a reflector.

Die wunderschöne blaue Flügeloberfläche ist charakteristisch für das Männchen. Beim Weibchen reicht die blaue Färbung nicht bis zum Flügelrad.

The beautiful blue wing surface is characteristic of the male. In the female the blue colouring does not reach the impeller.

Das Weibchen legt seine Eier an Tragant (Astragalus), Esparsette (Onobrychis) und bunter Kronwicke (Securigera varia). Es können sowohl das Ei, als auch die junge L1 Raupe überwintern. Sie lebt wie auch viele andere Bläulinge, in einer engen Symbiose mit Ameisen.

The female lays her eggs on tragacanth (Astragalus), sainfoin (Onobrychis) and colourful crown vetch (Securigera varia). Both the egg and the young L1 caterpillar can hibernate. Like many other blues, it lives in a close symbiosis with ants.

Das Weibchen besitzt eine ausgeprägte Verzahnung der Hinterflügel. Beim Männchen ist dieses Merkmal weitaus weniger markant ausgeprägt.

The female has a pronounced toothing of the hind wings. In the male, this feature is much less pronounced.

In Deutschland wird der Zahnflügel-Bläuling auf der Roten Liste als stark gefährdet eingestuft. In Unterfranken kann man den Falter nur in wenigen Gebieten entlang von Main und Tauber finden. Dort kann er aber zahlreich vorkommen.

In Germany, the Meleager's blue is classified on the Red List as highly endangered. In Lower Franconia the butterfly can only be found in a few areas along the Main and Tauber rivers. But there it can occur in large numbers.
