Violettroter Kleinspanner ■ The tawny wave
Scopula rubiginata (Hufnagel, 1767)
Der violettrote Kleinspanner ist ein tagaktiver Nachtfalter aus der Familie der Spanner (Geometridae). Er besucht bei sonnigem Wetter Blüten, ist aber auch nachtaktiv. Die Eiablage erfolgt an verschiedenen krautigen Pflanzen. Der Falter fliegt in zwei Generationen von Mai bis September. In Deutschland kommt dieser Falter nur noch lückenhaft vor. Sein Bestand gilt als stark gefährdet.
The tawny wave moth is a day-active moth from the family Geometridae. It visits flowers in sunny weather, but is also nocturnal. It lays its eggs on various herbaceous plants. The moth flies in two generations from May to September. In Germany, this moth only occurs patchily. Its population is considered to be highly endangered.

Entdeckt habe ich den Falter am Morgen, als die Sonne noch nicht so hochstand. Eigentlich wollte ich Bläulinge und Dickkopffalter am Ansitz fotografieren. Es war jedoch schon zu warm und viele Tagfalter waren schon aktiv. Dieser kleine Spanner saß noch im Schatten der Bäume und verspürte wenig Lust zum Fliegen. Aufgrund seiner intensiven Färbung war er leicht zu entdecken. Diese Art ist sehr schreckhaft und fliegt bei geringster Bewegung auf. Freilandaufnahmen von so einem schönen Exemplar sind selten. Für mich war es die erste Begegnung mit diesem farbenprächtigen Nachtfalter.
I discovered the butterfly in the morning when the sun was not yet so high. Actually I wanted to photograph blues and skippers at the hide. But it was already too warm and many butterflies were already active. This geometer moth was still sitting in the shade of the trees and felt little desire to fly. Because of its intensive coloration it was easy to spot. This species is very jumpy and flies up with the slightest movement. Field recordings of such a beautiful specimen are rare. For me it was the first encounter with this colorful moth.

Die Bilder sind so schön. Ich habe seit paar Tagen versucht, Falter zu fotografieren aber noch keinen Erfolg. Sie sind wahnsinnig schnell 😁.
Vielleicht liegt es daran dass du zu schnell bist. Oft ist es besser sich Zeit zu lassen und sich dem Falter langsam zu nähern. Eine weitere Möglichkeit ist es früh am Morgen oder am Abend zu probieren. Dann sind sie nicht mehr so lebhaft. Es gibt viele Wege. Auch du wirst einen Weg finden. Ich drücke dir die Daumen 🦋

as I had already written, this is not a butterfly but a moth. You can separate butterflies from moths by looking at the antennae. The antennae of butterflies have bulbs. Moths, on the other hand, have filiform or fanned antennae.

I take a certain amount of effort when taking pictures. I usually use a tripod. To reduce the brightness between the subject and the background, I often work with reflectors or daylight lamps. I like to make this effort, because the result makes the difference to a snapshot.

Huhu, mir ist heute auch einer vor mein Smartphone geflattert. Der sitzt glaub ich auf einem Kuhfladen. Schöne Grüße :)
Den Pantherspanner (Pseudopanthera macularia) kenne ich gut. Allerdings habe ich ihn noch nie auf einem Kuhfladen beobachtet. Oft ist er am Waldrand oder auf Trockenrasen zu beobachten. Er ist tagaktiv und meistens kommt man mit der Kamera nicht nahe an ihn heran. Dir sind wirklich klasse Bilder gelungen!
