The deer beetle is a family of about 1,200 species of beetles in the family Lucanidae, which are currently classified into four subfamily. Some species grow to more than 12 centimeters, but most up to about 5 centimeters.
Lucanid beetles play an important role in forest ecosystems and are an important element of biodiversity.
