Great questions. I for one don't want to see this since it will destroy the domestic leagues and also only widen the gap between rich and poor clubs. I rather just have it the way it is now with CL.

I see it similarly to you. The national leagues would suffer massively and top-level football would move even further away from the "grassroots", i.e. the fans, than is already the case. I was hoping that someone would write in who thought that was a good thing. :)
