Lady Rocks unleash on DeSales

It was a pretty exciting game last night for my niece and her high school varsity softball team. After their stint in Tennessee over spring break, the ladies came home to Ohio and absolutely obliterated the Saint Frances DeSales team.

I remember them playing St. Frances during basketball season and I think they had a similar experience, so this must be one of the few private catholic schools that isn't known for it's sports programs.

Usually these private schools are able to stack their talent via recruiting and it gives them an unfair advantage over most of the public schools. Say there is a play that is really talented that they want on their team but they can't afford the tuition for the private school. Surprise, surprise, a scholarship just became available for this student to attend.

Say that happens a couple more times, then you add in the rich people who can afford the tuition and private lessons for their kid every day of the week and before you know it you have a team ready for championship contention.

Thankfully, there were no worries about that last night.

Full disclosure, the photo above isn't from last night. It's from one of the games they played down in Tennessee, but I didn't take any screenshots from the game last night.

Except for this one:

This was a recap that Game Changer put together of the game. More than likely using some form of AI. It seems we can't escape its clutches these days.

21 is an impressive number of runs to score, but what has me more concerned is the 10 next to it. They allowed 10 runs by the other team. Any other day that would equal a loss for you. They clearly have a bit to work on, but a win is a win, so I will take it.

They actually ended the game early as the run rule was imposed as soon as the Shamrocks scored their last three runs. My niece started off a little slow getting hit in the back by the first pitch thrown to her. She slowly started to get her bat going and by her third or fourth at bat she blasted a home run ball over the wall.

The young lady mentioned in the photo above hit two home runs in the same game. Her last at bat they intentionally walked her before the girl right after her hit a triple to score the winning runs.

It was a pretty fantastic finish.

If I were the coach, I'd give them a couple minutes to celebrate the win, but then we would be having a long talk about those ten runs they allowed.

Even though my niece is already committed to a university, would you believe that high school ball doesn't really attract prospective coaches like you might think? Instead, those university coaches run the summer tournaments that travel ball teams are playing. I guess that gives them a better chance to focus on the talent they are looking for.

I've mentioned before that coaches and players also use Twitter (X) quite a bit to communicate and share their achievements.

Anyway, this is shaping up to be an interesting season for the Lady Shamrocks!
