After a short week off the Lasers Scarlet travel softball team that my niece plays on is back in action this weekend. I haven't looked at the schedule too closely, but I have a feeling they will be playing back at Berliner park where they normally play in Columbus.
Despite the fact that they mostly play in Columbus, the team is called Ohio Lasers Scarlet. Many of the players hail from across the state which makes having regular practices a bit of a struggle. I think they rely on the young ladies to put in the work themselves most of the time, then they meet up once in a while for more in depth sessions.
We are talking several hours per practice because they need to make it worth the drive time for those coming from farther away.
The action starts off tomorrow morning when the Lasers Scarlet take on Indy Dreams at 11:10 AM. After that they have a short break until their second game at 2:20 PM against Indiana Irish.
It's another early Saturday morning as they have an 8 AM game against NY Diamond Girls. I'm sure my niece is not looking forward to that game. Like her aunt, she is a big fan of sleep, so getting her out of bed any sooner than 11 on a non school day is a big deal!
Finally, they have a 11:10 AM game on Saturday against Ohio Outlaws. From there as is usually the case they will potentially have bracket play on Sunday. Those games won't be determined until they complete their pool play games.
It turns out I was wrong about where they are playing. Upon further inspection, this showcase is taking place in North Ridgeville, OH or something like that. It is being put on by the Outlaws organization. I did want to point something out about Berliner park before I go.
If you look at the photo above, I want you to direct your attention to the light pole in the center of the screen. At the top of that pole is a Osprey next. I've seen @tattoodjay post some photos in the past from his hometown of osprey nests.
What I find interesting about this one is the fact that there is no large body of water near Columbus, OH like there is where Tattoodjay lives. There are some rivers for sure, but no ocean or lake or anything like that.
I was talking to my brother in law and apparently there are a couple of nests in the park and they do the best they can to keep them protected and undisturbed. When I was taking this photo you could just see a bird popping it's head up and down out of the nest.
Pretty cool if you ask me.
Check back next week when I cover all of the action from this weekends tournament!
