One More Day!

Just one more day and my niece will be taking to the softball field to start her second year playing for the Tiffin Dragons. She put in a lot of hard work over the off season shifting her focus from pitching to playing in the outfield and she earned herself a spot on the roster.

They are heading to Nashville this weekend to play their first games of the season and I am really looking forward to catching some of the games assuming they are available via streaming. It also won't be long and her younger sister will be playing on the varsity squad for her high school softball team. I'm really looking forward to seeing how she excels and steps up as a leader on that team.

Shifting gears for a second, last night we got to watch the live stream of our friends daughter playing basketball. Unfortunately, she hurt her ankle early in the game and she had to cheer from the bench, but she did a good job of encouraging her teammates. So much so, that they had a come from behind win. It was pretty awesome to watch them get so excited.

Since it is softball season, and football is already sitting squarely in our rear view mirror (until the new spring league starts), I am going to be talking about some university softball on a regular basis.

Oklahoma has been the powerhouse for I don't now how long when it comes to softball. The championship game has been played in Oklahoma at least the last couple of years, and the Sooners seem to always be in that game.

This year they start the season in the top spot and have a record so far of 4-0. They are followed closely by Tennessee at #2, Texas at #3, Georgia in the number 4 spot, and Florida State in #5. In case you haven't figure it out, softball is a pretty big deal down south.

As much as they love their football, if you want to see some high quality softball, you look to those schools in the Big 12 and SEC.

In fact, Washington at #6 is the first school that isn't located down south, but with the PAC 12 being gone, you might think they play in a southern conference now. That would actually be incorrect. They are a Big 10 team now.

It's actually pretty funny, because in the top 20 teams, there are only about two or three that aren't located down south. Right now Washington is the only Big 10 team in the top 25, but hopefully that will change soon.

My nieces college is a Division II school, so they will never be in these rankings, but that doesn't mean I am not going to follow them with any less passion.

I hope you are ready for some softball, because I am going to be talking about it quite a bit over the next couple of months. Fair warning, mute me if you must!
