Maignan: same calf, different muscle. The 2022 Rossonero is over

Like a bolt out of the blue, yesterday afternoon came the news that no Milan fan ever expected: Mike Maignan, who was recovering from a calf problem, has re-injured the same calf, the left one, but a different muscle. All to go again for the French goalkeeper who now has to start the recovery process again and risks missing the World Cup as well.

See you in January

According to what Gazzetta dello Sport writes this morning, it is very unlikely that we will see the French goalkeeper between the posts of the Rossoneri goal one more time in 2022. Maignan, who stated a few days ago that if it were up to him he would also be back with Verona, will return neither with Monza nor Dinamo. To be fair, the 16 will not be at Pioli's disposal until January 2023 when the league restarts. According to reports from the Rossoneri club, Maignan's problem will be reevaluated in 10 days, at which time Milan will be on the eve of the crucial match against Salzburg. After that match, there would be only three league games left to play in a week. Maignan will be at a crossroads, risk playing perhaps the last game against Fiorentina to show Deschamps that he is recovering and be taken to Qatar; or agree directly with the French coach and try recovery directly with selection. The last scenario, the most bitter for Mike, staying at home.

The hoax and the Tata

The injury Maignan has picked up in the last few hours is truly mocking: the calf is the same as in September, the left, but the muscle is the one next to the twin injured a few weeks ago, the soleus. It all sounds even more galling when one considers that the Milan goalkeeper went down during a Nations League match with the French national team of relative importance. It will therefore be Ciprian Tatarusanu's turn again to defend the posts for Stefano Pioli's Milan. The Romanian goalkeeper has been playing now since the Empoli game, a match in which he actually committed a carelessness on Bajrami's goal. With the number 1 in goal, however, the Rossoneri have never lost in the league. Confidence in Tatarusanu is utmost also because, after all, he has found himself playing as a starter for at least half the season and, with Champions League in the balance, much will also pass from him and his ability to be decisive or not.

I hope he can recover in time for the world cup. Even though he wouldn't be missed as Lloris is in top form

Maybe for the world cup but 2022 with Milan is over sadly
