RE: UEFA verdicts in Rangers vs. Slavia case: when words are more than acts

in Sports Talk Social3 years ago

Hey man, thank you very much for sharing your opinions. I can see you are from Ireland so it´s good to hear from someone who lives so close to where it all happened :)

As for Roofe, I think the word lenient is understatement. If he did the same thing in normal life in a street or somewhere, he could go to jail for an attempted murder. It had nothing to do with sport at all.

As for Kudela, I agree. The fact that he wispered those words and even covered his mouth indicates that it was probably something really bad and it could indeed be racist. On the other hand, taking the law into anyone´s own hands is just as unacceptable. Just imagine all the crazy things (=types of off-pitch vengeances) it can trigger if not punished exemplarily.

Truly incredible how many crazy things happened in Glasgow that day... Not a good day for football for sure.

Ya you're right. Lenient is indeed an understatement, an absolutely shocking challenge... i had to find a video as a photo doesnt always tell the full story...

One thing I would say is the stiker had his eye on the ball and i don't think it was intentional. Brain dead - yes. Intentional- i don't think so. As such the 4 match ban is probably around right, pehaps 6 matches, but no more than that, as it was accidental.

Well, he knew that the keeper was there and he still put his foot this shockingly high, at full speed...

Ya i hear you. Looking at the after images and the impact shot, it looks terrible and extremely dangerous. I still don't think it was intentional though, just stupid and maybe driven more by adrenaline as he was only after coming on as a sub and wanted to make his mark. Well that's a bad turn of phrase in the circumstances, as he certainly made his mark and one the keeper will wear for the rest of his life.

Thinking again on the ban, i guess it should be more in the region of 6 to 9 matches to deter players from coming in at that height with a raised foot.

Good debate sir 👍
