I have this tendency to put them underneath the body of the vehicle after I remove them, because if the car happens to slip off the jack stands it does have something to land on that is not entirely just me.

No you don't, I do the same thing, It's not being skeptical, it's being cautious. Btw, that truck needed a lot of love, luckily they have you to do at work.
