In my region the rainy season has already started, a time when traffic accidents increase, sometimes due to recklessness of drivers, and sometimes due to the lack of preventive and corrective maintenance to the braking system.
Yesterday I lived the experience when in the middle of the rain the car in front of me braked abruptly, obviously I also braked, but my brakes did not respond 100%, I felt that it took a while to do it properly, fortunately nothing to regret, but that alerted me to make a service to the brakes of my car on my return home.

En mi región ya comenzó la temporada de lluvias, una época en la que se incrementan los accidentes de tránsito, en ocasiones por imprudencias de los conductores, y en otras, por la falta de mantenimiento preventivo y correctivo al sistema de frenos.
Ayer viví la experiencia cuando en medio de la lluvia el carro que iba delante de mí frenó bruscamente, obviamente yo debí frenar también, pero mis frenos no respondieron al 100%, sentí que tardaron en hacerlo debidamente, afortunadamente no pasó nada que lamentar, pero eso me alertó para hacer una revisión a los frenos de mi carro al regresar a casa.
When I got back, the first thing I did was to disassemble the front wheels, for this it is only necessary to have a piece of 120 grit sandpaper, a hard cell brush and a ratchet with a 9/16 die.
When I disassembled the front wheels I found what I already assumed, the brake discs were slightly crystallized, and when I took out the brake pads they were also crystallized and dirty with soot, so they needed to be serviced.
Al volver, lo primero que hice fue desarmar las ruedas delanteras, para esto solo es necesario tener un pedazo de papel de lija grano 120, un cepillo de celdas duras y un ratchet con un dado 9/16.
Cuando desmonté las ruedas delanteras comprobé lo que ya me suponía, los discos de freno estaban levemente cristalizados, y al sacar las pastillas de freno estaban también estaban cristalizadas y sucias de hollín, por lo que era necesario hacerles mantenimiento.

The first thing I did was to clean with a brush and water, the disc, the caliper and all components that are covered with all this dirt that is produced with the daily running-in, although it may not seem all this reduces the efficiency in the braking system.
Then I cleaned the brake discs by sanding them lightly with sandpaper and water, this removes that crystal layer that is created on them. This same procedure was also done with the brake pads, I rubbed them with sandpaper and water at the same time to remove excess soot and remove the layer that crystallizes them.
Lo primero que hice fue limpiar con un cepillo y agua, el disco, la mordaza y todos componentes que se encuentran cubiertos de toda esta suciedad que se produce con el rodaje cotidiano, aunque no lo parezca todo esto reduce la eficacia en el sistema de frenado.
Luego limpié los discos de freno lijándolos ligeramente con el papel de lija y agua, esto elimina esa película de cristal que se les crea. Este mismo procedimiento lo realicé también con las pastillas de freno, las froté con el papel de lija y agua al mismo tiempo para retirar el exceso de hollín y eliminar la capa que las cristaliza.

With everything cleaned up, I started to assemble, made sure to tighten the caliper bolts correctly, reassembled the wheels and adjusted. I went out for a ride in the car to test the brakes, I am very satisfied with the response of the brakes, now they work 100%.
With this type of maintenance I feel much more safe when braking fast, either on dry or wet pavement.
Remember that it is very important to take care of these details to avoid accidents, regularly check the condition of your brake pads and discs, if you see that layer of crystallization on them, you know how to solve the problem.
Ya con todo limpio, comencé a armar, me aseguré de ajustar los tornillos de la mordaza correctamente, monté nuevamente las ruedas y ajusté. Salí a dar una vuelta para hacer pruebas, y debo decir que me siento muy satisfecho con la respuesta de los frenos, ahora funcionan al 100%.
Con este tipo de mantenimiento me siento mucho más seguro a la hora de realizar un frenado rápido, bien sea sobre el pavimento seco o húmedo.
Recuerden que es muy importante cuidar estos detalles para evitar accidentes, revisen el regularmente el estado de sus pastillas y discos, si observan esa película de cristalización en ellos, ya saben como resolver el problema.
