Rescuing a Citroën GS Pallas [ENG/ESP]
Today I am going to tell you how we rescued an old Citroën GS Pallas. For those who don't know about this model, this one is from 1977 with 1300cc engine and 4 cylinders boxer with about 60cv of power, the cooling is air and oil. The special thing about this model is that it has air suspension as standard, you can raise and lower the car as desired.
Hoy os voy a contar como hemos ido a rescatar un antiguo Citroën GS Pallas. Para quien no sepa sobre este modelo concretamente este es del año 1977 con motor 1300cc y 4 cilindros en bóxer con alrededor de 60cv de potencia, la refrigeración es de aire y aceite. Lo especial de este modelo es que tiene de serie suspensión neumática, puedes levantar el coche y bajarlo según lo deseado.
The car was covered in an open field, it was quite dirty and had not started for a long time. So we took a battery, a few tools and a bottle of petrol. We put the battery, poured petrol into the tank and also petrol directly into the carburettor, it wouldn't start so we removed a hose from the carburettor to suck it until the petrol from the tank arrived and it finally started!
El coche estaba tapado en un terreno al aire libre, estaba bastante sucio y bastante tiempo sin arrancar. Así que nos hemos llevado una batería, unas pocas de herramientas y una garrafa de gasolina. Hemos puesto la batería echado gasolina al deposito y también directamente gasolina al carburador, no arrancaba así que hemos quitado un manguito del carburador para aspirar por el hasta que llegase la gasolina del deposito y por fin ha arrancado!!
We took it out of the field and left, but not before cleaning the front window because it was impossible to see through it. The first thing we did was to go to a petrol station to wash it a bit, inflate the tyres and fill it up with petrol.
Lo hemos sacado del terreno y nos fuimos de allí no sin antes limpiando el cristal delantero porque era imposible ver a través de el. Lo primero que hemos hecho es ir a una gasolinera a lavarlo un poco, hinchar ruedas y echarle gasolina.
The car was quite dirty and seemed to have a spark plug failure due to age or lack of use but at least it started every time we stopped and restarted it.
El coche estaba bastante sucio y parecía que fallaba alguna bujía debido a su vejez o su falta de uso pero al menos arrancaba cada vez que lo parábamos y lo volvíamos a arrancar.
And with these small preparations we set off for home. The car was in Fraga (Huesca/Spain) and we had to go back to Zaragoza (Spain), a 120km trip but it was night, foggy and rainy. A bit risky because we didn't know the car but life is full of unforeseen adventures.
Y con estas pequeñas preparaciones nos poníamos en marcha para volver a casa. El coche estaba en Fraga(Huesca/España) y teníamos que volver hasta Zaragoza(España), unos 120km de viaje pero era de noche, hacia niebla y lluvia. Un poco arriesgado debido a que no conocíamos el coche pero la vida esta llena de aventuras imprevistas.
After a few kilometres we decided to stop, we wanted to check the oil level because we had forgotten to check it but it was fine. The car was behaving correctly so we could continue our journey, we also took the opportunity to lower the suspension as we had left it high and it was not behaving well in the curves.
A unos pocos kilómetros decidimos parar, queríamos revisar el nivel de aceite porque se nos había olvidado mirarlo pero estaba correcto. El coche se comportaba correctamente por lo que podríamos proseguir nuestro viaje, también aprovechamos para bajarle la suspensión ya que la habíamos dejado alta y no se comportaba bien en las curvas.
I also took advantage of this stop to take a few photos of the car, as you can see the condition of the bodywork is pretty bad and the interior too, but that will be a matter of work to improve i
También aproveche esta parada para tomar unas pocas fotos al coche, como veréis el estado de la carrocería es bastante malo y el interior también, pero eso será cuestión de trabajo mejorarlo.
Then we continued the trip, it was quite foggy and if it wasn't raining very hard but the car in spite of its age behaved perfectly. Finally we arrived at our destination, I think it has been a good buy, the sentimental part is that my father had one exactly the same colour when I was little so my father, my brother and I looked at it with illusion.
Después continuamos el viaje, hacia bastante niebla y si no llovía muy fuerte pero el coche pese a su edad se comportaba perfectamente. Por fin llegamos a nuestro destino, yo creo que ha sido una buena compra, la parte sentimental es que mi padre tenia uno exactamente igual del mismo color cuando yo era pequeño entonces lo mirábamos con ilusión mi padre mi hermano y yo.
