Lo de este mundial ha sido increíble, hemos visto un sin fin de resultados inesperados, tanto así que hoy en día tenemos a tan solo dos selecciones de CONMEBOL en las fases finales, estas son Brasil y Argentina, que sí termina alguna de estás quedando campeonas taparan lo desastroso que ha sido la participación de los equipos sudamericanos en la actual Copa del Mundo.

Si hace pocos días me decían que Uruguay y Ecuador no entraría al menos uno de los dos a los Octavos de Final no lo creería, ya que los de la mitad del mundo se clasificaban con un empate y los charrúas con una goleada ante la débil selección ghanesa les era suficiente. Sí, Uruguay la tenía más difícil que Ecuador, pero esa garra característica de los sudamericanos me hacían pensar que si era posible que le pasaran por encima a los africanos.

Ya analizando la situación y buscando entre los datos me encontré con una curiosidad, la última vez que la Copa del Mundo fue ganada por un seleccionado de la CONMEBOL fue justamente en Asia (Corea-Japón 2002) y exactamente ese fue el último mundial donde solo dos de los países que habían clasificados a las fases finales pertenecían a esta confederación, en aquella ocasión Paraguay y Brasil avanzaron a Octavos, este último fue campeón mundial, mientras Argentina Ecuador y Uruguay se quedaron en Fases de Grupos.
¿Se repetirá la historia?. No lo sé, eso lo sabremos en pocos días. Pero lo que sí es un hecho es que Alejandro Domínguez debe analizar a profundidad lo que se está haciendo mal, para así buscar la manera de aumentar la competitividad interna y que la Confederación vuelva a meter a la mayoría de sus clasificados a instancias finales.
The last time the World Cup was won by a CONMEBOL team was precisely in Asia (Korea-Japan 2002) and that was exactly the last World Cup where only two of the countries that had qualified for the final stages belonged to this confederation. On that occasion, Paraguay and Brazil advanced to the Round of 16, the latter being the world champion, while Argentina, Ecuador and Uruguay remained in the Group Stage.
Will history repeat itself? I don't know, we will know in a few days. But what is a fact is that Alejandro Domínguez must analyze in depth what is going wrong, in order to find a way to increase internal competitiveness and for the Confederation to get the majority of its qualifiers to the final stages once again.
I've been watching very good football matches for the last week. I think the excitement will increase as we get closer to the final.
Undoubtedly, the excitement is growing, the surprises seem to have disappeared and now the favorites are starting to win.
