UnderPunks RPG is a Discord game that uses your Wax wallet to store in-game assets as NFTs. It is developed by a solo developer Jaydz Deveraux who goes by LAMA. LAMA defines the game as “a massive, living world, TTRPG (roleplaying game), but played on Discord.”
In my experience, the game lives up to that definition and I have had a good time with it so far. On top of that, the community has been kind, welcoming, and a ton of fun to interact with.
You play the game as a “mutant humanoid rat living deep below a 1980’s retro-futuristic cyberpunk city that you lost contact with in 1955.” While a good amount of the community enjoys roleplaying out their rat’s journeys that aspect of the game is completely optional. If you enjoy roleplay and crafting stories that experience is here for you. If not, no problem just enjoy the gameplay.
The game itself feels a lot like classic text-based adventures and MUDs of the past, down to using !n, !s, !e, and !w to navigate the map. If that is something you enjoy, like I do, then I highly recommend giving the game a shot, because UnderPunks does this well.
There is a lot to do in the game and more things are being added all the time. Some things that can be done currently include hauling, mining, dungeon crawling, combat, magic, heists, smuggling, espionage, bounty hunting, owning a dragon, owning land, and much more. On top of that, you can join a guild and become a monk, thief, guard, spy, or choose to forge your own path.
Recently the developer created a way for players to join and get started for free, so even though the community is small it’s growing slowly but steadily, and I consider it a great time to jump in.
