Kindness: A Powerful Tool For Emotional Well-Being

Kindness is showing concern for people and taking steps to improve their life. It enables us to interact with others and establish deep connections. We feel connected and we are eager to work with anyone that shows us kindness.

Nothing is more wonderful than extending generosity to another person, in my opinion. Although I believe that a lot of people have lost this feeling and are too occupied with their daily affairs to give kindness much thought.

We are having a lot of self-centred and toxic people in the world. Some people will even go far to hurt the happiness of another person.

Being kind does not only deal with giving out material things or money. It doesn't require much work, just saying nice words to people that will make them smile is an act of kindness.
Giving someone who feels lonely some of your time is another act of kindness. This might mean the world to that person.

It is a wonderful gesture of kindness to assist a coworker with their tasks when they are unable to or too weak to do so themselves. Texting or calling your friends and relatives can go a long way in their eyes.

My recent encounter with a stranger following my deed of kindness

Due to the new currency's design, there has been a shortage of cash for the past month in my country, Nigeria. While the old money has been deposited with the CBN (Nigeria's central bank), the new currency has not yet gone into circulation.

This is the cause of the community's cash shortage; as a result, many individuals visit the banking hall every day to obtain cash. You will be handed a small sum of money that will finish the same day, and the queue is always long.

I was in the queue for 3 hours at the banking hall, and I was very close to being attended to. A woman with a little boy approached me. Looking at the mother alone reveals that she has been under stress, and the young boy appears to be worn out and ill.
The woman begged me that I should please allow her to stay ahead of me so that they could attend to her on time.

She proceeded that she might not receive cash if she followed the number given to her.
She claimed that both she and her kid were ill and that they lacked the funds to take care of themselves. This woman appeared genuinely ill, and I could see the pain in her eyes.

I agreed that she should stay in front of me, but as soon as the other people in line noticed what I did, they raised an alarm. I begged them to let her in and said that I understand that everyone is going through a lot at this time. But they rejected my apology.

So I decided to leave the queue for the woman, I have been so emotional with the condition of the woman.
The woman couldn't believe what was going on when I told her that I gave her my space. She was so happy and she prayed for me. I told her that it was nothing to be worried about.

I asked her if she could care for a bottle of water and snacks, and she replied yes. I went outside and I got some snacks and water for her and the little boy.
The woman was so emotional, but I told her that she should stop shedding tears and give thanks to God.

I didn't give a damn about the money I wanted to withdraw because I was so pleased that I could improve someone's emotional health and that I also managed to save a soul. If that woman didn't get the money that day, something terrible might have happened to her.

Being kind to others has many benefits, I will discuss a few below

Kindness brings happiness to both the giver and the receiver.
I always feel satisfied and happy whenever I render kindness.
Also, kindness gives someone a sense of value and affection.

The distress of both the giver and the receiver can be lowered by showing kindness. Being kind to others can make us feel less stressed, which can be beneficial to our physical and mental health over the long run.

It allows us to acknowledge and be grateful for everything we have. Take for instance the experience I shared above.
I was grateful that I wasn't in that position. No matter the condition we might be in life, we are always better than some people.

We should always avoid being too nice, this might cause a lot of problems for a kind person.
Check out the effects of being too nice below:

You won't remember to take care of yourself while you are too busy taking care of everyone else. As a result of this, your fundamental needs might not be addressed. This could trigger sadness and fatigue.

Even though it's not in your favour, if you are too kind, It could be difficult for you to refuse certain requests.
You could be concerned that this might hurt them or make them unhappy with you.

They hold themselves accountable for any mistakes that occur. Because they are too kind to even consider thinking negatively about someone.

In conclusion, Kindness is contagious, our children will learn from us if we are generous.
They will spread goodwill toward others.
To take care of ourselves and still be kind to others, we should also maintain a balance between kindness and be overly kind.
