I'm sorry to hear about the disharmony in your parents' relationship! I think jealously was more of a problem back then. I remember my father confronting other men in public if he thought they were paying too much attention to my mom. Society has changed since then, at least in the US, you don't see that as often. It's true, at that time this type of situation was very common, even for women who were victims of abuse. Fortunately, this has changed a lot now.
