When I noticed the subject for this round of the Qurator's photo quest I immediately knew which photo I was going to submit!
I like ice, both in summer as in winter. Due to the rising temperatures, we haven't had many very cold winters anymore in the past years. I had to dig into my archives for shots of a very cold Dutch winter. I had to go back to 2021!

In 2021 we had quite a long period of temperatures well below 0 degrees Celsius. I remember that is was extra cold because there was a lot of wind. The result is that the lakes don't freeze up into a smooth ice floor, but you get these ice floes. Not very nice for ice skating, but it did give me a perfect opportunity for a cool photo. Especially with the low hanging sun.

This is my entry for the Qurator's photo quest of this week!

The wind also caused another cool phenomenon. Some trees were literally covered in ice because the winds pushed the water onto the branches where it froze.

Here you see another example of that. The reed has turned into frozen sticks. You even see some water was dripping off one stem.

It was so cold that winter that some of the larger lakes also were frozen. A lot of people went ice skating, which is very popular here in winter.

I have another photo in my archive that I really like. Here I captured two ice scaters on a large lake. I like how you see their silhouettes in the distance.
