Connecting the grid; pictures of powerlines

in Quratoryesterday (edited)

Although I mosty try to prevent those ugly power lines to ruin my shots, the power lines themselves can be quite a nice subject to photograph.
When I saw that Power Lines was the subject of this round of the Qurator's Photo Quest, I immediately knew which photo I was going to submit.

I think it is about a year or two ago that I took this shot. I was cycling to work and it was very cold and misty. When I looked at the transmission towers in the meadows, they seemed to float in the mist. It was a very cool sight (both literally as figurative), so I stopped, took my gloves off and made some photo's.
I was quite happy with the result. I really like the gradiend of the sky caused by the upcoming sun, which gave the predominantly blue environment some more color.

This is my entry for the Qurator Photo Quest for this week:

The following shot is from another day. We have some more transmission towers in the area. When I walked underneath one of them, and looked up, I saw this very cool symmetric pattern.

Another form of power lines I find interesting are those that you find in the streets. We actually don't have this in The Netherlands, so I'm always amazed when I visit other countries and see a tangle of wires above the streets. Just like in the shot below that I took during my holiday in France last summer.

Yet another form are the power lines or the railroad network. Kilometers of power lines provide the energy for our trains to transport travellers around our country.

The symmetric appearance of the second picture is awesome.

Beautiful photography, it often seems as if the image is waiting for us, don't you think?
