I think .PNG would be fine, but vector art would be a cool bonus. The dots should have exactly the same space between them they don't necessarily have to be exactly in the place they are now as that was done by hand. The final result should be symmetrical. The edges of the diamond should be straight. No dots should touch the diamond (this was the result of my unsure hand and not a dilberate part of my design).
